Style of Wight x Mermaid Rum Commission (2023)

I was approached by Style of Wight Magazine to design their magazine cover for Mermaid to advertise their newly launched Rum. Taking inspiration from “old world” sea exploration, maps and sea monsters, I wanted the finished piece to remind the reader of pirates and sailors drinking rum in the Caribbean. On the front I wanted to anthropomorphise Mermaid Spiced Rum into an actual mermaid and as you turn to the back you reveal her tail curled around a large bottle of rum. I also referenced the botanicals used in the distilling process as spot illustrations: rock samphire, apricot, white cherry, vanilla, cassia, holy grass and honey. Click Here to Read Issue 83!

Being My Body (2023)

When Carolee Schneeman died in 2019, Instagram removed thousands of tribute posts to the artist as much of her work featured her own nude body. Ironic as Carolee was a pioneer in challenging the censorship of the nude female body throughout her career. Writing to a friend in the 60’s who questioned Carolee’s choice to use her body as an extension of her canvas, Carolee declared “I am not showing my naked body, I am being my body”. Carolee inspires me not to see my self-portraits and autobiographical work as “self-indulgent” but as powerful tools to release myself from the ever tightening grip of the male gaze. To create my own narrative and feel strength in the ownership of my body.

International Women’s Day Workshop (2023)

For International Women’s Day 2023 I created and delivered a collaging workshop aimed at Year 5 and Year 6 age groups. I introduced the students to two women in Isle of Wight history and asked them to reflect on how attitudes towards women may have changed over time. After reflecting on these stories they were asked to create an A4 Collage inspired by what they had discussed.

Island Women Wondering Why Zine (2021)

True stories of the fascinating lives women have led on the Isle of Wight. The last independent Lord of the Isle of Wight who was actually a woman in 1800s, queer speedboat racer who dazzled the press in the 1930s. The Ventnor mothers who took Ronald Reagan to court in the 1980s. The fearless 12 year old skateboarder that won’t let broken bones get in between her and her board. Self-published zine written and illustrated by Sarah Redrup.

The Ventnor Women for Life on Earth (2021)

Sue and Bridget believed in Peace. On a cold rainy day in 1982, 30,000 women held hands around the Greenham Common nuclear missile base. This is a story of two of those women, both young mothers from Ventnor, and their lifelong fight for peace. Self-published zine written and illustrated by Sarah Redrup using a Risophraph printer.

The Women’s Bureau of Rebellion (2019)

Somewhere hidden in Ventnor is a secret society on the hunt for stories. Once you find the Bureau you will need to piece together their research to find out what fascinating stories they have uncovered. Interactive installation at the Ventnor Fringe Festival. Curated by Sarah Redrup.

Love Shouldn’t Hurt (2021)

Valentine’s Day can be a difficult time for survivors of domestic violence. Huge displays of affection can remind them of “Love Bombing”, a tactic used by abusive partners to manipulate victims into staying in the relationship. Gifts and “I’m sorry, I love you, I can’t live without you” are often swiftly followed by aggression and then the cycle continues. Mixed media. Private collection.
