Illustrator & Baker’s Daughter.

I am an illustrator and artist based in Hampshire with a particular interest in portraiture, collage and mixed media. I believe the power of illustration is in it’s ability to tell stories where words alone are not sufficient. Colours, texture and body language are powerful tools in communicating emotions that are difficult to narrow down.

I am deeply interested in the histories that might get lost to time, the stories that fade away after the person who lived them passes away. Particularly the lived experiences of women. I think it is important to ask our mothers and grandmothers what life was like for them before we came to exist. Through my work I want to listen and share, I want to save those stories from fading away.

I come from a family of bakers and painters. My grandfather worked for council as a painter and decorator, but his drawings of my mother as a child reveal a wonderful talent that I wish I appreciated more when he was alive. My dad has been a baker all his life, but when he was a teenager he painted a portrait of his dog on the wood of his bedroom door. My mum on the other hand insists she’s not the creative type (because maths is more her thing) but when I was small she gave me advice on my portrait sketches that I still think about every time I draw.
